SIRULINA WAS HER NAME
Spirulina perched in a gold bird cage.
Angry lions guarded her moat.
She sang in the tongues of angels
to keep from being bored and depressed.
She was afraid of drowning when it rained—
and trembled with panic in a drought.
She never spoke to a soul,
and no one ever said a word to her.
When her tongue dried up,
she learned to speak in Sign,
squawking—Life is for the birds!
